HEMS and Law Enforcement

Built for the Mission

Designed specifically for Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), Law Enforcement, Tactical Fleets, and IFR Operators. Combine enhanced time-to-impact alerting with total operational privacy on high-stakes missions.

Overview

Commercial, emergency, and government operators face operational challenges that standard VFR traffic awareness systems cannot address. High-speed profiles demand longer warning times, while sensitive tactical operations require strict privacy from public ground-tracking networks.

FLARM’s Commercial Fleet Suite delivers two powerful OEM software capabilities designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing PowerFLARM platform:

  • Extended Alerting (EAM): Aligns FLARM collision warnings with IFR/TCAS timing profiles for high-speed or complex airspace.

  • Confidential Network (CNM): Protects operational security by anonymizing aircraft broadcasts via 128-bit key encryption while keeping standard traffic visible.

Extended Alerting

Standard FLARM is optimized for visual flight, where a warning up to 20 seconds ahead of a conflict is ample. Professional operations are different: crews are often heads-down on the mission, flying instrument procedures or working in dense, mixed traffic.

Extended Alerting lengthens the prediction horizon so warnings arrive earlier — bringing FLARM in line with the timing pilots expect from airliner-style collision-avoidance systems such as TCAS. Alerts flow through to every connected display and instrument exactly as before, just sooner.

  • Doubles the look-ahead time for a developing conflict
  • Consistent with the alerting rhythm of TCAS / TAS-equipped aircraft
  • Enabled by license file; active automatically, nothing to configure

Confidential Network

Some operations shouldn’t be broadcast. Confidential Network Mode replaces FLARM’s open transmissions with an encrypted signal shared only within your fleet. Aircraft carrying the same private key see one another perfectly — while everyone else, including ground tracking stations and public receiver networks, sees nothing.

Crucially, safety is never traded for privacy: your aircraft continue to receive all conventional FLARM traffic around them. You simply choose who can see you.

  • Encrypted fleet-only visibility using a shared private key
  • Invisible to other aircraft and ground tracking networks
  • You still see all standard (unencrypted) traffic — full situational awareness
  • Toggle on or off during flight, with immediate effect
