EASA publishes Version 2 of the ADS-L Standard

Today, after two years of development, EASA has published Version 2 of the ADS-L protocol specification for the SRD 860 MHz band. The new version improves upon the first version in many respects and introduces key features:

  • Errors and ambiguities have been resolved
  • New features for ground-to-air data transmission have been added. This will allow for the upload of weather or traffic data in the future
  • Interoperability has been enhanced by allowing ADS-L devices to broadcast their capabilities
  • The integration of RemoteID for drones has been prepared. This could allow drones to use the ADS-L radio system for RemoteID starting with Version 3, largely eliminating the drawbacks of current RemoteID technology

We congratulate the team at EASA as well as the Drafting Group, led by our CEO Urban Mäder, on this important milestone.
