Firmware Version 3.11, August 12th 2007
For updates via PC and serial cable, please remove the SD card and delete all update files (.fw) from it!
No G-record (IGC file validation Validierung) for Flarm04 (devices shipped in 2004)
Due to lack of memory Wwe had to remove the validation of IGC flights from first generation devices,
but flight recording works as usual.
Bug removed when switching between "NEAREST" and "WARNING" modes in Flarm 04 und 05 (bar display)
The visual indication for switching between WARNING and EAREST mode were inverted since v3.05.
this can lead the user to believe that he is in NEAREST mode when in fact the device is in WARNING mode and vice versa.
However, the devices start in NEAREST mode, so users who never swiched mode were not affected.
Flarm receiver selftest
Instruction for receiver selftest:
When the aircraft is on the ground, pushing the button (on the main unit only) for 1-6 sec will
no longer result in a change from NEAREST to ALARM mode. Instead a receiver selftest is performed. During flight the behavior remains unchanged.
Two seconds after the button is pressed, Flarm will show how many other FLARM are received with reduced sensitivity (50% of the normal range).
It will then emit a long beep and lite one vertical LED for every 10 and a short beep and one horizontal LED for every single received aircraft.
(e.g. 14 received FLARM is: "beeeeep bep bep bep bep", with one vertical and 4 horizontal LED's)
Configuration through SD card (for devices with SD card slot only)
If at powerup a file named "flarmcfg.txt" is detected on the SD card, it will be processed as configuration commands.
Syntax is the same as on the serial dataport (see Data Port Specification (PDF 160 kB)
This new feature is especially useful for batch configuration or a pilots individual configuration for shared aircraft.
This example of a file sets the following configuration:
- set pilot name
- set logging ON
- set logging interval to 2 seconds
- set baudrate to 19200 (to ensure communication with the pilots PDA)
- set transmit on ground
- set privacy off
all other settings (e.g. aircraft type) remain unchanged
If this file is present on the pilots personal SD card, he can slide it into the installed FLARM, go fly, reboot FLARM > 5min after landing (this copies flight log to SD card), take the SD card home and enjoy & share a properly labeled IGC file. Sweet, ey?
"Click" signal when target in "NEAREST" mode changes
...due to popular demand... Enjoy.
"Click" will also sound when there was previously no NEAREST.
Statistical data about transmission range and system performance stored in the IGC file
Flarm now stores statistical data in the IGC file. This will allow the user to verify the proper operation and installation of his unit.
Please email your IGC format flight logs to:
we will process the data and email you a graphic, showing transmission ranges in different directions around your aircraft.
This will be very useful to optimize your FLARM antenna position.
Minimum flight duration for this is one hour and you must have had contact to at least five other FLARm equiped aircraft.
Reduced obstacle warn time from 30 sec to 20 seconds
The warning levels are now the same for all alarm types.
Increased horizontal margin from 50m to 70m and vertical margin from 50m to 60m.
This change has been done to reduce "false" alarms. As obstacles are generally in the direction of travel, avoiding them, once the pilot is aware of the danger, must be possible with 20 seconds alarm time.
Various minor bugs fixed, especially in flight recording
- ADD: progress indication when copying IGC files to SD card (after powerup)
- CHANGE: improved behavior if target's signal is not received for 1-2 seconds -> targets position is extrapolated
- CHANGE: NEAREST maximum distance increased to 3km, altitude delta counts twice as much as distance (unchanged)
- FIX: $PFLAC,S,UI,X commands will be ignored for LED display
...........FLARM will always display alarms with the LED's, independent of the setting of any external display
- FIX: sanity checks for log readout (no more "ghost" files with strange dates)
- FIX: "on the ground" detection improved, should result in less false alarms about stationary aircraft
- FIX: corrupt timestamps in flight records: changed the way timestamp is generated
- FIX: GPS fixes only for positions within DOP and ACC masks
- FIX: bug in buzzer control let buzzer pull current in standby (rarely)
- FIX: removed voltage monitor high level (used to be 26V, request Triadis)
- FIX: some aircraft (other than gliders) were always treated as "on the ground", bug introduced after v3.02
- FIX: button handling on ECW 100 devices
